WIJ-land is not an island, but a natural harbor on the Nuldernauw near Zeewolde. You moor here in a sheltered basin, with the Horsterwold directly behind you.
About the island
Although WIJ-land is not an island but a natural harbor, you are still truly away from the hustle and bustle here. Unlike on an island, here you do not step onto a piece of land in the middle of the water, but moor at the edge of a large nature reserve. You walk straight into the Horsterwold, one of the largest continuous deciduous forests in the Netherlands. You can walk and cycle in the forest. With a bit of luck, you might even spot roe deer, foxes, or a kingfisher along the water.
The village of Zeewolde is within cycling distance for groceries or a drink on a terrace. Nearby you will also find RCN Zeewolde and Scoutinglandgoed Zeewolde, where canoes, kayaks, and game equipment are available for rent.
