Running along the waterfront is the promenade with its beaches: a place you always seem to want to visit. Whether you come to get some fresh air, go for a stroll, sit in the sun or simply gaze out at the horizon, you can do it all here.
The combination of the beach, the water and the promenade creates a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes it’s nice and quiet, sometimes a bit livelier, but never really busy or hectic.
A place where you can easily linger for a while, whilst the city is just around the corner.
Feet in the sand, views of the town. Lovely Harderwijk.
The promenade
The promenade is the sort of place where there’s always something going on. You’ll find a variety of cafés and restaurants where you can stop for a drink, lunch or just an ice cream.
Along the quay there are plenty of benches with views over the harbours. It’s certainly pleasantly busy here in the summer: boats mooring, people walking by and a buzz of activity everywhere. It’s the sort of place where you easily sit down for a moment and then end up staying longer than you intended.
With a bit of sunshine, it soon feels as though you’re on holiday, simply sitting on a bench with a view over the water.
Beaches
The beaches in Harderwijk are perfect if you fancy a spot of relaxation by the water. The town beach really stands out. Here you can relax with your feet in the sand and a view of the water.
There’s plenty for children to do, including a playground and trampolines. Meanwhile, you can settle down at Walhalla, the trendy beach bar where you can enjoy a drink or a tasty treat. If you’re arriving by boat, you can easily moor at the jetty at the back.
As well as the city beach, there are more beaches to be found along the water’s edge, heading towards Veluwe aan Zee. Often a bit quieter, but just as lovely if you simply want to enjoy the sun, water and space.
A place where you can easily spend a couple of hours, or even a whole afternoon.
Surf paradise. Suit on and let's go!
Harderwijk is perhaps even more beautiful when viewed from the water. Hop on your board and brave the waves on an adventurous SUP tour across the Randmeren lakes. Whether you’re trying SUP for the first time or are a seasoned paddler, this is the perfect way to experience the town in a whole new light.
You can go SUP here all year round, even in the evening. That’s when it’s particularly special: tranquillity on the water, the town slowly lighting up and a completely different atmosphere.
A trip through the Waterfront also introduces you to this new district of Harderwijk. Modern architecture, clean lines and water all around you – a lovely contrast to the historic town centre.
