During this Open Monument Day, the Vanghentoren is open to the public on a limited basis and city guides are present. The Vanghentoren was the entrance to the adjacent Blokhuis, the residence of the Counts of Gelre until 1393. The Vanghentoren features a gateway with a lock slot. Around the 15th century, the guarding and security of the city were organized in this building. It also served as a city prison. From the 19th century until the Second World War, soup was cooked here and distributed to the poor. The large soup kettle is still present. Today, the Vanghentoren is a residential house.
