Diagonally opposite the Veluwemeer aqueduct, close to the inner harbor of Harderwijk, lies the Leidam. Not an island in the classic sense, but a breakwater in the Wolderwijd where you can moor about fifteen boats.
About the island
The name of the island Leidam refers to its function: a leidam is a dam that guides water and directs the current. Not a natural island, therefore, but a hydraulic engineering structure that has found its own place here in the landscape of the Wolderwijd. Among locals, the jetty was for a long time also known as the ‘fries jetty’.
Harderwijk is located approximately 800 meters away, with its old center, outdoor cafes, and city beach within easy reach. Due to its shape and limited space, this place is primarily used as an overnight stop for those on the road.
