The Grote Kerk can be visited on weekday afternoons during the summer months, except on Sundays and Mondays. A visit is always possible during a city walk, except on Sundays.
During this Open Monument Day, the Grote Kerk is open on Saturday. The Grote Kerk was built in the Gothic style. Construction of the Grote Kerk began after 1415. In 1561 and 1562, Ewolt van Delft and his daughter Agatha van Deventer painted the vaults of this monumental church. After the Reformation, these unique depictions disappeared under multiple layers of whitewash. During the restoration of the church, in the period 1968–1980, the paintings were rediscovered. Recently, the paintings have been restored and can be viewed again in their full glory. With the City Museum's audio tour, you can listen to the special story about the unique painted vaults in the Grote Kerk. The organ dates from 1816 and was made by the Bätz Brothers.
