The anatomy lessons of the Gelderse Academie were initially held in the Catharinakapel. In the Disaster Year of 1672, the anatomical theatre there was destroyed by French troops. In 1705, this building next to the herb garden was converted into a laboratory, storeroom, and anatomy cellar for the Gelderse Academie. The professors gave anatomy lessons here. The building was therefore also known as the “snijcamer” (cutting room).
