Bethelkerk Harderwijk

The Bethelkerk is the church building of one of the three parish communities of the Hervormde Gemeente Harderwijk, in the Wittenhagen district. In addition to the church services on Sunday, there are open church moments on Tuesday and Thursday, activities for young and old, and family services. Services can also be followed online.

A church in a new neighbourhood

Around 1950, Harderwijk expanded ‘across the railway’, with new neighbourhoods such as Tinnegieter, Veldkamp and Wittenhagen. In 1960, the neighbourhood received its own Bethelkerk. In 1981, that building burned down completely. In 1983, a new church was taken into use, with side rooms and a basement for the youth.

An opened heaven twice over

The name Bethel is reflected in the stained-glass windows. One window shows Jacob’s ladder in Bethel, the other the rays of light from heaven at the baptism of Jesus. In 1985, the church was completed with a new organ from the firm Blank from Herwijnen.

Coming together, doing together, living together

This is how the congregation describes its vision, with a heart for the Lord, for each other and for the world. The services are every Sunday at 10:00 and 18:30. On Tuesday and Thursday at 14:00, the church is open for anyone who wants to drop in.
