Vischpoort Harderwijk

Binnenkijken in de Vischpoort

Never seen the Vischpoort from the inside? It is open to visitors during the Aaltjesdagen. Be sure to come take a look and let yourself be surprised by the authentic atmosphere!

Fish used to be brought from the boats to the market through the 14th-century Vischpoort (Fish Gate) of Harderwijk.

It is also the only remaining city gate of Harderwijk, which was built to protect the inhabitants against enemies and high water. The gate could also be closed if the water rose too high. The Vischpoort was formerly called the Lage Bruggepoort. View the Vischpoort from the inside.

In the 18th century, a lighthouse was built on top of the gate. It became redundant with the closure of the Zuiderzee, and since then the light is only switched on during special events.

Perhaps also during the Aaltjesdagen .
