Sinds 2014 is het Visserijconcert uitgegroeid tot een geliefde traditie. Alleen tijdens de coronaperiode kon het evenement niet doorgaan, maar inmiddels is het concert weer een vaste en succesvolle afsluiting van de zomer. Jaar na jaar weet de organisatie het publiek te verrassen met bijzondere muzikale samenwerkingen, een afwisselend programma en een unieke sfeer in de prachtige ambiance van de monumentale Grote Kerk.

Tijdens de rondleiding ontdek je hoe 27 Nederlandse figuratieve kunstenaars hun visie op de zomer verbeelden. De gids vertelt over de verschillende stijlen en technieken, terwijl je ziet hoe de zomer in al haar facetten tot leven komt in meer dan vijftig werken.

Street theater throughout the city center

Performances are taking place at multiple locations in the historic city center of Harderwijk. Street theater artists present music and circus acts, spread across various locations around the Hortuspark with its herb garden and the Catharinakapel, among others.

Circus and acrobatics

In addition to theatrical acts, the festival also features spectacular circus and acrobatic acts, with which artists entertain visitors in the street.

A day full of entertainment for the whole family

The festival is explicitly child-friendly, making it a suitable activity for families who want to enjoy a day of theater, music, and acrobatics in the center of Harderwijk.

Start bij het Oude Stadhuis

De wandeling begint op de Markt, bij het Oude Stadhuis van Harderwijk. Vanaf dit centrale punt in de historische binnenstad vertrekken bezoekers voor een route langs de oude monumenten van de stad.

Twee dagen wandelen door de historie

De stadswandeling is zowel op zaterdag als zondag te lopen, telkens gedurende de hele dag. Dat biedt bezoekers ruime gelegenheid om op eigen tempo kennis te maken met het monumentale erfgoed van Harderwijk.

Ontdek de binnenstad van Harderwijk

De route brengt de rijke geschiedenis van de stad in beeld en vormt een laagdrempelige manier om tijdens Open Monumentendag meerdere bezienswaardigheden in het centrum te bezoeken.

Lunch Concert Wandering Through Europe

Prior to the afternoon program, concertgoers are offered a free lunch. Following this, the ensemble Che Bel Suono will perform, featuring harpsichordist and organist Dick Boer and traverso player Henk Schuurman. The program *Wandering Through Europe* brings together lesser-known eighteenth-century composers, including Mahaut from the Netherlands, Pepusch from England, Leclair from France, and Barsanti from Italy. Admission is free.

Evening concert with choir Ad Hocus

In the evening, a Mendelssohn program will be performed by the Ad Hocus choir under the direction of Anne-Marieke Evers. Diederik Blankensteijn plays the organ and soprano Rosa Ligtermoet performs as a soloist. The program includes Psalm 42 and Hear my Prayer, among others. This concert is also free to attend, with a collection at the door afterwards.

Music in a monumental church

The combination of Baroque chamber music and Romantic choral works makes PodiumPlantage a varied musical program within the characteristic Plantagekerk.

Starting point with exhibition

Hierden Village Hall at Dorpshuisweg 9 serves as the central hub for the activities. Visitors will find general information about Open Monument Day and an exhibition dedicated to Schietkamp Hierden, the former military training ground that was called Schießplatz Harderwijk by the German occupiers during the Second World War.

Bike tour past historical heritage

A tour of approximately 45 kilometers is being organized under the name Heel Hierden fietst. The route passes by monumental farmhouses and historical sites in and around Hierden, with the start and finish at Dorpshuis Hierden. Participants can register on site.

Experience the regional history

The combination of exhibition and bicycle tour offers visitors both in-depth exploration and physical activity: from the war history of the Shooting Range to an active introduction to the region’s agricultural heritage.

Almost twenty years of poetry in stone and plastic

The Harderwijk Poetry Route has existed for nearly twenty years. Harderwijk’s first city poet, Michel Martinus, initiated the route in 2007, involving the laying of heavy paving tiles bearing poems throughout the city center. Over the years, due to weather conditions and intensive use, the tiles became increasingly illegible. The Literary and Cultural Foundation Apollo took the initiative to breathe new life into the route. With support from the Municipality of Harderwijk and the Burger Weeshuis, the worn stones were replaced with synthetic tiles, known as “poetry carriers,” which are attached to building facades. Alderman for Culture Martijn Pijnenburg performed the official reopening in 2026 at the Old Town Hall on the Markt.

Past special places in the city

The route leads past a series of characteristic locations in the historic city center: the City Museum, the Library, the Synagogue, the Town Hall, the Grote or Mariakerk, the Vispoort, and the Vischmarkt. Each of these places features a poem written by a city poet or junior city poet of Harderwijk and Hierden. The poems reflect the history, character, and daily life of the city. With a walking guide—designed by Fred Kapelle and available at Heerlijk Harderwijk, among others—all the poem displays are easy to find.
