1.7 km past checkpoint 73, on the right-hand side of the dirt road, stands a sign for Schapendrift/Hierderweg. Approximately 200 meters further on, there is a post with a memorial plaque. Enter the forest path here, and after about 200 meters, you will see a memorial. This commemorates the crash of an English bomber, the Afro Lancaster MKIII, which was shot down by a German night fighter on April 1, 1943. Seven conifers surround the monument, one for each crew member.
